Grave Dancers Union (Horde) [18 Mar 2008|03:09pm]

Hello, this group was just brought to my attention via one of my guildies.  Thought I would say hello.  I am Vic, a 70 elemental shaman on Uther.  I also have a 70 Hunter, Psycotron.  I also have many other alts on horde side.

I am the Guild Master (Mastermind) of the Grave Dancers Union (GDU).  GDU just celebrated its 3rd birthday on Uther and we would like to invite anyone who is intrested to apply.

You can apply via a forum post on our website, which can be found at www.GraveDancersUnion.com,  Please read our mission statement in the middle of the main page before applying.  I can not stress enough that we are NOT a raiding guild.

shadow pearls [30 Jan 2008|10:37pm]

WTF is up with these drops!

I've been trying to farm (using thotbot as a guide) for two weeks and haven't had any success.

The AH has been empty for days...

Suggestions? Am I simply extremely unlucky?

Got any spare to sell? I need three. I've no clue what the going rate is as they've not been on the AH...

New Uther guild [01 Apr 2007|02:06pm]

Hello. Death and Taxis is a new guild on Uther, alliance side, and we're looking for people who are tired of trying to find PUGs. We're a casual guild, looking for people 60-70, mostly for 5-mans, and perhaps eventually Karazhan and beyond. We would prefer people who are mature, are capable and willing to speak in full sentences, don't take themselves too seriously, and are fun and laid back. We want to help you get your heroic keys, so you can help us run heroic instances. We will have a vent server, and a website in the not-too-distant future. Message me in game if you're interested or would like more info... I'm usually on as either Serrafina, Meji, or Cheiri.

And yes, the guild name is intended as a joke. :)

Raiding guild suggestions [30 Mar 2007|02:35pm]

I am a 70 warlock, and I'm trying to do some research into some of the better raiding guilds on the server. I have not yet been in a raiding guild, so I lack experience, but am definately ready to join one and start learning. The only one I know anything about is VE, however, I am under the impression that they only take those who have already had raiding experience, thus my dilemma. Any suggestions?

[22 Feb 2007|04:22pm]

So just kinda curious where everyone is now and what chars people are playing. Been gone a few months and kinda outta the loop a bit. Think I'm going to start leveling my warlock up over the next few weeks. No specific goals with the char as yet, just want to get to 70 so I can play with friends if I choose.

So yeah, who all's still around and kicking? :P

Gruul's Lair! [21 Feb 2007|12:37pm]

Well we had our first real attempt at Gruul's Lair last night.  Maulgar is... interesting!  We almost got him, had all his adds down and started working on him and lost it.  Tragically that was our last attempt as several healers needed to get going.  Hopefully tonight ^^

For those not familiar it's the first 25-man raid content in TBC.  No key required to get in.  It's out in Blade's Edge.  Your first fight is High King Maulgar (ugliest ogre ever!) and 4 of his buddies.  He has a priest, warlock, shaman and mage adds.  It's pretty interesting and brings a lot of classes out to shine.

Mage add needs to be tanked by a mage who can spellsteal his shield thingie.  Lock needs to be tanked by his own felhunters so you need a few warlocks on enslave duty (more than one, since he deathcoils).  Shaman we're hunter kiting.  Priest is easy, just gotta burn him down and interrupt his heals.

Maulgar, however, hits like a gd truck.  No joke.  Trond was getting nailed with 5 digit crushing hits.  aiyee yayay.

So yeah, I'm out piddling around, farming up more mana pots since I burned through my stash last night.  F netherbloom!  gah.  Was really nice to get back to raiding.  Little rusty since most of us haven't done much anything beyond 5-man since pre-TBC, but that'll work itself out in a day or two once we're back in the swing of things.

Ah, not sure if it's been officially said or not yet, but I know Irony is looking to pick up some druids and locks.  Can chat up Munny, Moorog, Trondheim or Timmak about it.  http://forums.ironyguild.com is zee website if you wanna drop an app (or recommend friends) after chatting up the officers.  I think the only real requirement at this point is to be Karazhan keyed, which I'm more than happy to help with the instance runs required for it (Pele in game).  No spec limitations that I'm aware of, our two druids are both resto spec atm but I imagine there would be some happiness to pick up a feral tank or two.

What's up ^^ [20 Feb 2007|12:02pm]

[ mood | bored ]

Wow we've been a pretty silent community of late.  How has everyone been?  Enjoying TBC?

I've been having a fairly decent time all around, I suppose.  Not a big fan of faction grinding, but at least it isn't as bad as trying to rep up Timbermaw or something :X

Alchemy is driving me absolutely batty.  I've gotten most of the static spawn drops (except for a few out of instances).  Holy Protection recipe is evading me.  The idea of "discovering" new recipes from making others is pretty neat, but again... it's been a total frustration to me.  For a week or two I was busting out a few hundred pots daily and managed to discover absolutely nada.  Pretty much giving up on going out of my way on it.  I'm hoping when raiding starts up in earnest again soon I'll have more luck doing pot combines for guildies.

Anyone have any idea whatever happened to that "live maintenance" thing they were trying to do?  I think they did it once, sometime pre-TBC, but never saw it happen again.  (By "live maintenance" I mean when they tried to do maint without the Tuesday downtime.)

Anywho, pretty bored.  If anyone needs a healer (or fakedps) for something horde-side holler at me :)  If I'm not wrapped up in a guild group I'm usually pretty happy to go.  Instances I'm actively LOOKING for (for recipes) are Old Hillsbrad, Mana Tombs and Mechanar, and could use some Shattered Halls love for rep :X  I slack and wound up skipping most of that zone leveling so I'm a wee bit behind on the rep curve.  But yeah, happy to do anything.  Sitting around in Shatt twiddling my thumbs kinda sucks!

Wheeee [05 Dec 2006|10:02am]

[ mood | sleepy ]

Well, last night was a wonderful time.  Best time I've had in awhile.  We (Irony) finally downed Patchwerk.  Was the greatest feeling I've had in quite some time :D  So good to see that jerk go down.  After that we played frogger... we were rather disappointed that there were only 3 rows of slimes :(  Yet 10 people still managed to bite it.  Took screenshots and will tease them for awhile ;)  hehehe.  Ran in, downed Grobbulus.  Took us a few tries, organizing where people should be running to blow up so they don't make a mess everywhere but went pretty smoothly.  Not such an exciting kill, but hey.  It's progression and free frost resist gear loot .

Last night was my first attempt at whack-a-mole healing in over a year.  Had up lovely CTRaid individual boxes for group, and used WoW's interface for class boxes.  Went pretty well healing wise, still working to adjust to lack of decursive.  (thank you poison cleansing totem... I love you)  I see the windows change colors, I know what flavor debuff it is... but I can't remember what hotkeys I've programmed in for cure disease/poison hehe.  Will take a bit of work, but should be np.  What are the rest of you healer types planning on doing?  What addons will you be using instead of emergency monitor type things, how are you setting up your screens, etc?  I'll try and grab a screenie of my new setup tonight to show off.  Assuming servers come back up without a hitch, etc :D

Excited also about new talents.  I'm a slacker so I'm not entirely sure what all they put in this patch beyond easily attainable HWL weapons/armor, new talents, and destroyed healing as most people know it.  Death of dynamic emergency monitors, decursive, did they put in the nerf to ranked down healing this patch, too?  What I'm desperately curious about is the stacking HoTs.  Was that put in, how high do they stack, etc etc etc.  I WANT TO KNOW!  hehe.  Will do wonders for trivializing a lot of Naxx content.

[04 Dec 2006|01:15pm]

Howdy. Thoght this would be a better place to post than worldofwarcraft, at least to start. I'm on Cenarius, which has a 2.4:1 Alliance:Horde ratio, and only 2,500 active Horde players despite the fact that its a 12/2004 realm. It's a dead end. I was looking on WoW Census for Pacific Time PVE realms with better ratios and more Hordies, and while Dragonblight is 1.3:1, it has no players. Uther, it turns out, has the best ratio of all large PST PVE realms, at 1.8:1. And it has 7,500 active Horde. I'm thinking of transferring.

The reason I'm concerned with those stats is twofold: better ratio = better "world PvP" and less gear disparity between factions; 3x as many Horde = several more advanced, serious guilds... at least in theory. As it stands on Cenarius, we have just 3 guilds that can clear BWL, and only one that can be considered "advanced"... downed C'thun and is working on Naxx. No one outside those guilds has any gear, expansion world pvp will be a joke, etc etc. This includes me - mine is just starting BWL.

Anyway, I'm wondering what the guild progression is like on Hordeside Uther, whether there's an oversupply of mages as there is on Cen, whether a competitive pvp culture exists at all, and whether there are wait queues and such... I noticed you have 21,000 total players. Just scouting the joint before I plunk down my $25. I probably wouldn't be applying to any guilds until I reach the late 60's, at which point everyone's gear will probably be close to equal. Though I'll probably spend all my time in the arena anyway.

[16 Oct 2006|01:14pm]

C'Thun finally down. Had been on the fight for months, between Irony and Spite, but never really invested the time necessary to get him down, instead spending the time getting a foothold in Naxx. After getting 5 bosses down in Naxx, turned our attention back to C'Thun, spent a couple weeks working on it in addition to Naxx, then one week focused entirely on C'Thun, and got the kill in.

Yay :P

About a month old, but interesting to some I'm sure [19 Sep 2006|02:36pm]

We've kept a lot in mind while creating the arena system to help make it as centered on player skill as possible, and not time invested. We're looking to help create a place where players can track their achievements and improvements in a fun PvP environment. We're no strangers to the tactics and extent at which players will take a game to help ensure they reach their goal sooner or easier. It can however be minimized by simplifying a system so that the possible benefits available to a player are specific and tangible to everyone, and that the potential for exploitation is reduced as much as possible. With a complex system there will always be that something extra that can give you an edge over someone else, it's the size and availability of the edge that makes the difference though. We think we're making some great progress in creating place where players can come and test their PvP skill against others, have fun, and get some pretty cool rewards out of it too.

Just because you asked, here's some more information on the arena system. Hopefully this quells some of your concerns, and squashes a few assumptions. Please keep in mind that this information is subject to change, but these are our current plans for the PvP Arena system in The Burning Crusade expansion.

When a player enters an arena battle, all buffs and conjured items are purged/deleted. This is done to ensure no outside buffs or items from members outside of your team are able to be used in an arena battle.

No consumables other than bandages and conjured items can be used while in the arena. There will be a waiting area similar to the current battlegrounds where players on the team will be able to conjure items and cast buffs.

Abilities/spells/items with cooldowns longer than 15 minutes cannot be used while in the arena.

Each arena team will be given a rating, and will be matched up in the arena queue against teams of a similar rating (matching within that specific cross-realm battlegroup). As time progresses the matching system will broaden its search up to a limit if a closely rated team cannot be found.

Ratings adjustments are made in the same way that ELO ratings adjustments are made. This system works by adjusting each arena team's rating from a specific match based on the rating of the team they are up against. If a team wins against a team of a higher rating, the increase of their arena rating would be much higher than if they had won against a team of a lower rating. This system will help promote players improving their skill and besting teams which may have previously held the top spots.

At the end of each week, characters receive arena points based on their team's rating. A team must have fought a minimum number of battles for the week, which we have announced as currently set to 10 games. A player must have played in at least 30% of the team's battles that week in order to be eligible to receive arena points. Each eligible player will then receive a fraction of the teams total awarded points to spend on arena rewards.

Players may spend their points on arena rewards, or save their points until they have enough to get the rewards they desire.

There is a limit to the number of points a player can stockpile, which is currently planned to be as high as the most expensive item.

At the end of a season, players on a team are given a title based on their team's relative position on the ladder which will last through the next arena season.

[ mood | calm ]

Been a while since any posts here so figured I'd toss something up. (edit: just saw there was another post today, as I was typing this... rofl)

I have to admit, there are some definitely benefits to the x-realm bgs, but at the same time I definitely feel much more disconnected from the Alliance on Uther now. Used to be I could screw around some in the BGs during the week and actually somewhat get to know some of the Alliance. Now it seems like most of the time when I see Uther Alliance, it's as an organized group that's steamrolling whatever PUG I happen to be with at the time.

Though, that said, it was kinda interesting to get into a BG with Uther Alliance that had one of my ex-guildies (a group of them rerolled Alliance on Duskwood, made a guild and got up through like BWL and mebbe into aq40, then merged with another Alliance guild that ended up falling apart... and at least one transferred that char back to Uther), Saya.

It's been good to get back to raiding semi-full-time. Was doing well in Spite, then had a clump of our people leave for the Duskwood thingy. Ended up getting some to fill in the gaps, but we were slowly losing people to attrition and not filling in. Merged with Akai as they were having similar problems, forming Irony... but I had to leave a couple days after the guild was formed, since I had some work crap pop up. About a month later, the guild had changed quite a bit... many people had left, and they were again struggling with raids. This was right before server x-fers, so we had considered briefly transferring off... but we've been with Spite-become-Irony for about a year and a half now, so we ended up hopping back on and getting involved. After a couple months, we're actually back to making progress in Naxx and AQ40, with a fairly set raiding group and schedule. It feels good. It's great to be able to see the progress and see the guild performing better on content it had previously struggled with.

Of course the flip side of that is that Naxx is very consumable-oriented, so needing to ramp up my farming to keep up with our progress and attempts. Really glad I have a 60 herbalist that I can go pick some of the crap I need.

Battleground Woes [24 Aug 2006|01:27pm]

[ mood | confused ]

So, uhm... yeah. Decided to screw around in the new battlegrounds last night a bit on my druid, so I quickly queue up for WSG... single queuing just to see how it'll go. I get into a battleground almost instantly, good so far, right? I get in, I'm the only one there against one Alliance... errr, ok. Waiting for the battle to start, expecting others to join soon... when the Alliance guy (a mage) drops in on my head, while the gates are still closed. Just kinda blinked, ss'd it, and didn't really think too much of it other than maybe there was a glitch with the BGs that they'd missed.

BG starts, run out, mount up... he's grabbed our flag, but I run over and grab theirs (a rogue had joined by this point, but managed to avoid him and get free to midfield). A couple other Horde join, in the end we're able to kill the mage and I cap the flag. Somewhere in this I notice that the BG has been up for 3 hours... so was a bit surprised when it capped. We go through the game and end up winning, 3-0... and then I sit there. It won't let me leave. Finally, asked on guild and someone said to just /afk out, you wouldn't get deserter. Tried it... and yep, no debuff. Odd.

Anyone have any clue what was up with the BGs last night? Half the time I'd get into games that had already finished and have to /afk out... always with no debuff. One time I entered a battle only to get spit out with an "instant not found" error. However, I couldn't requeue because it thought I was in the instance... had to queue for another BG to get it to reset. Messed around for an hour or two, and in that time I only had 1 game that actually had cross-server people and was near-full... most of them were 6-10 Horde vs 2-4 Alliance in AB.

What were things looking like from the Alliance side of things? And anyone hear any news about what's going on? Took the night off to spend some time with my sister-in-law who's going off to college tomorrow.

[22 Aug 2006|10:23am]

I went ahead and transferred my druid to Uther from a pvp server because he's the most fun to play and all my friends/family have moved to Uther as well.

I was curious if anyone knew of any guilds that do AQ20, perhaps to completion (Ossirian). I really enjoy that instance. I have full tier 1 and my rank 13 pvp gear so MC and ZG are pretty boring for me lootwise, and I really love the way the encounters in AQ20 works.

Any suggestions?
